Have your say on the national direction of palliative care

The National Palliative Care Steering Group is looking for input on how adult palliative care services are run in Aotearoa New Zealand.

The steering group, part of Te Whatu Ora Health New Zealand, is looking for people to join its next fixed-term working group: the Models of Care - Adult Working Group.

The steering group is requesting nominated representatives from hospices, hospital palliative care teams, aged residential care, general practice and district nursing, as well as community representatives.

Nominations and expressions of interest will close on Wednesday 17 April.

Nominations and expressions of interest can be made with the following application form. The form also has more information about role requirements and relevant skills and experience:

Draft terms of reference for the models of care working group have also been released:

As well as the models of care working group, the steering group is looking for contributions to its work through a survey about palliative care services for adults, including services offered by GPs, community services, residential aged care facilities, hospices and hospitals.

The survey will be open until 31 May.

The working group members will present their progress and seek input from the health sector and the public through a webinar expected to be held later this year.

Once the working group has submitted its recommendations to the steering group, there will be a consultation on the recommendations including online presentations, face-to-face meetings and an online feedback form. The consultation is expected to start in late 2024/early 2025.

Updates on this work will be published on the Te Whatu Ora national palliative care work programme website.
